Full Name: Ana Maria Suarez

Home and Origins[]

The First Edition doll boxes state that Ana was born in Mexico City, Mexico.

In the Books, Ana was born and raised in the Washington Heights area of New York. The neighborhood she grew up in is known as "Spanish Harlem" due to the large Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican population and influence there. Ana was raised in New York and knows the city better than anyone. She and her family live in a tiny apartment there.

  • Read the Locations page for a detailed map of Ana's location in New York City.

After the First Edition, Ana was said to have "transferred", but it was never stated where. Eventually, she transferred back into International High.

According to the last online chat room conversation, Ana became an exchange student in Peru so that she could teach students English there.

Appearance[]

Ana is known for her long dark lustrous hair, mostly worn in low pigtails tied by two hair buns. Her dolls have fringe or bangs, while her books' covers depict her without them.

She has piercing brown eyes.

In the book series, she is described as tall and athletic-looking with tanned muscles, though the books' photos depict her as shorter than Nichelle. She has calloused hands and close-tipped fingernails. She has the kind of appearance that's "naturally attractive without makeup".

She described her style as sporty and fun. She doesn't often care to wear designer items or new clothes, preferring to wear her older brother Juan's old worn baseball t-shirt for her track meets as opposed to the school's new uniform.

Personality[]

She is a "true blue" friend, someone her friends can always depend on. Her friends say she is focused and competitive. She is well-known for her determination, pushing herself extremely hard. Ana is tough and likes to appear strong, not liking to show weakness or cry, not even in front of her friends. Ana also has quite the temper, and can be a little too serious, especially when it comes to her sports.

According to Barbie, Ana is a "no-nonsense, what-you-see-is-what-you-get" type of person. She is straightforward, down-to-earth, and practical. Barbie has also described her to be "vivacious".

Hobbies and Interests[]

Ana's hobbies include swimming, running, and triathlons (Ana's favorite sports are swimming, track, and cycling). She enjoys riding her bike and in-line skating with her friends. Her favorite thing to do is body boarding, which, along with swimming, "turns her on". Her passions include competitive sports and her family. Her father's nickname for her is Estrellita-little star-due to how athletic she is.

Ana likes cat. She has a black cat named Gordo.

Her favorite movie genre is Thriller.

Her favorite food is listed as smoothies. Despite her being focused on eating healthy, occasionally she indulges in an ice cream sundae, cheeseburger, and French fries.

Her favorite color is orange.

Her favorite saying is "Check it out!" Her quote for the day is "Give it your all!".

She believes her room is the next best thing to being in the water. She loves her fish tank or aquarium because that's where she keeps her "buddies", i.e. fish. Because she loves spending time at the beach, she decorated her room to remind her of the sea all the time.

Her favorite music is Salsa and R&B. On the Gotta Groove CD-Rom, her favorite was a Salsa-Latin song called "Happy".

Her favorite class is Gym and Health.

She was Contributing Editor on Sports, Health, and Lifestyle for International High's Generation Beat (also once called Generation Girl, according to the First Edition magazine included in the box) newspaper/magazine. Ana doesn't consider herself the best writer, and was only convinced to join because of Barbie. However, Mr. Toussaint, her English Composition teacher, felt she was good enough to join the newspaper and write for their Sports column. She created the articles "Get On Track!" and "Bring the Beach Inside" for the First Edition and My Room magazine issues.

Other Talents, Skills, and Traits[]

Ana knows Salsa dancing.

Though she has many talents, she doesn't consider herself a very good cook. She also doesn't have much patience for computers.

Ana dislikes dissecting cow's eyes in science class, as shown in New York, Here We Come.

She was put in charge of casting for the school musical event SING OUT!.

To be sure she's always in peak condition, she is serious about her health and keeps up on the latest nutrition and fitness information.

Long-distance running and hurdling are her strengths.

Being athletic girls, she and Victoria Tori Vicky Susie Burns caught on to skiing rather quickly though they'd never been before.

Due to her family being from Mexico, she speaks Spanish fluently.

Goals, Aspirations, and Accomplishments[]

Her aspirations are to be president of her own sportswear company and a champion athlete. One day she wants to be an Olympic gold medalist. Mostly, at minimum, she just wants to get a scholarship, get into college, and possibly do something professional. Aside from being an Olympic athlete, she has shown interest in law and medicine. Ana also hopes to travel. She's stated she's not as sure of what she wants to do when she grows up as her friend Barbara Barbie Roberts.

Ana trained and completed a full triathlon in Central Park, despite having a broken ankle. She ranked 9th in her age group. She also developed the fastest sprint time at International High, beating her track team rival Clarisse.

She attended an event held in honor of Victoria Tori Vicky Susie Burns's aunt at the Abrams Art Galleries on Madison Avenue where the singer and entertainer Madonna appeared to be present.

Friendship[]

Friendship is very important to Ana, and she believes it comes first before even her competitive sports.

At first, Ana struggled to fit in at International High because her family isn't as well-off financially as the families of most of the students attending the school. Making friends with the other Generation Girls and Boy became the best thing that has happened to her and she's gained new experiences as a result. Ana is close with all of her Generation Girl and Boy friends, feeling appreciated and accepted by them.

Ana often attends major events with all of the Generation Girls.

Ana has made other friends while involved in sports, in school and outside of school, as well as while enjoying sports on vacation. She's also formed friendships while working on the Generation Beat magazine and while hanging out at Eatz, the students' favorite restaurant. See Gen Girl Universe Characters for more information about her friends and associates.

Barbie[]

Barbie was Ana's first Generation Girl friend. She met her during the "Zero Day" school orientation picnic. Ana got to know Barbie better during their shared lunch period and Biology class. Barbie, along with their English teacher Mr. Toussaint, convinced Ana to join Generation Beat.

Barbie was super supportive of Ana when she was training for the Track Meet and Central Park Triathlon. Of all of Ana's Generation Girl friends, Barbie was one of two of them to attend all of Ana's sports events that Fall, filming everything. When Ana was having difficulty with her mean-spirited rival, Barbie tried to ease the tension and supported her when Clarisse shoved her, causing Ana to break her ankle. When Ana was angry with Blaine, Barbie supported her all the way, though she found a way to bring Blaine and Ana back together again after hearing his side of the story. Barbie eventually started joining Ana (and Nichelle) for a swim every morning to help Ana train for the Swim Team in the Spring.

Barbie often meets with Ana at her 5th floor locker between classes and after school. Ana helped Barbie prepare for her Crumbley Cookies commercial audition by moving furniture in the Jenner home, and they both attended Tori's aunt's art gallery event together. They often hang out at Eatz together. Barbie once ordered and saved Ana a salad.

Like with her other friends, Ana feels warm and appreciated around Barbie. Ana feels Barbie particularly always knows how to cheer her up. Barbie sometimes walks with Ana to her bus top, and she likes walking with Barbie around New York because she has a great eye for detail and, because Barbie is new to NYC, she notices things Ana misses every day. She feels it's pretty funny that Barbie carries around pink tissues. Barbie films all of Ana's races, and Ana feels she always finds the perfect camera angle.

Lara[]

Ana met Lara during the "Zero Day" orientation picnic along with Barbie. She got to know Lara better through Generation Beat, the school's magazine/newspaper/website, and through the other Generation Girls.

Lara often meets with Ana at her locker during and after school. Ana finds her accent to be cute. Lara cheered for and encouraged Ana at the Central Park Triathlon event. They, along with a few other friends, got together at the Jenner home to help Barbie practice for her Crumbley Cookies commercial audition. They also attended Tori's aunt's art gallery event and hang-out at their favorite restaurant diner, Eatz, together.

Like with her other friends, Ana feels warm and appreciated around Lara. Ana believes Lara has the most adorable European accent (German-Italian-French mixed in one). She finds it interesting that Lara finds "French" fries to be hysterical (considering they aren't French).

Nichelle[]

Ana got to know Nichelle through their classes and shared lunch period. They also both joined the Generation Beat newspaper/magazine/website team. Ana was the first person Nichelle shared her interest in journalism with. They both helped Barbie prepare for her Crumbley Cookies commercial audition and attended Tori's aunt's art gallery event together. They often hang-out together at the diner Eatz during lunch or after school.

In Pushing the Limits, Nichelle was super supportive when Ana was training for her Track Meet and the Central Park Triathlon. Nichelle set Ana up with Blaine, a boy she knew liked Ana. She also helped defend Ana against her rival, the mean-girl Clarisse Stephenson. When Clarisse shoved Ana during the Meet, causing Ana to sprain her ankle, Nichelle hardly ever forgave her for it and insisted on telling the principal to get her kicked off of the team. When Ana was mad at Blaine, Nichelle was, too, even though she didn't know the reason for it. Of all of the Generation Girl friends, Nichelle is one of two of them to attend every sports event, from the Track Meet to the Triathlon, Ana had that Fall. Nichelle also swam with Ana every morning before school to help her practice for the Swim Team in the Spring. Barbie joined them eventually.

Ana and Nichelle often visit with one another at their lockers on the 5th floor between classes and after school.

Like with her other friends, Ana feels warm and appreciated around Nichelle. Ana observes Nichelle's interest in fashion. She notices she always looks perfectly dressed, ready for a photo shoot, no matter where she is. She also thinks Nichelle is funny and good at mimicking people.

Chelsie[]

Ana got to know Chelsie through their shared lunch period, as well as through the Generation Beat newspaper/magazine/website team and through her Generation Girl friends.

When Chelsie was having a melt-down trying to edit the newspaper, but having trouble with the computer, Ana was the first to put her arm around her and give her a hug.

Ana is always there to help Chelsie when she's having difficulties, especially with the Generation Beat magazine/newspaper, and even offered to help organize everything for her. Chelsie tries not to bother Ana, though, considering how busy with sports Ana often is. Chelsie supported Ana by cheering for her and encouraging her during the Central Park Triathlon. They also attended Tori's Aunt's art gallery event together.

Like with her other friends, Ana feels warm and appreciated around Chelsie. Ana thinks Chelsie is the most gifted writer of all her friends, but is a lovable flake. She thinks Chelsie has a cool accent, but is really disorganized and messy. She laughs at how Chelsie manages to sound both British and ditzy when she speaks. She notices when Chelsie's mum makes her wear preppy clothes.

Tori[]

Ana got to know Tori through the Generation Beat newspaper/magazine/website team, in her French and Art class, and through her other Generation Girl friends.

Tori has helped Ana with working computers as Ana tries creating articles for the newspaper. Tori also invited Ana to her Aunt Tessa's high-profile art gallery event on Madison Avenue.

Both being athletic girls, Tori often invites Ana to go in-line skating with her, and she lets Ana borrow a pair of her extra skates. They also often hang out at the local diner Eatz. Tori makes Ana laugh with her colorful expressions and humor.

Tori cheered for and encouraged Ana during her Central Park Triathlon event. They also helped Barbie practice for her Crumbley Cookies commercial audition at the Jenner home, both helping to move furniture.

Like with her other friends, Ana feels warm and appreciated around Tori. Ana describes Tori as a "wild Australian girl", with an unmistakable Australian accent, living her life full throttle and skating everywhere she goes. She even believes her hair crackles with life. Ana sees Tori as different and never quiet. Tori makes Ana laugh.

Blaine[]

Ana eventually became romantically involved with Blaine. They first met at Eatz when he helped Ana pick up her items after a skateboarder bumped into her. He asked Ana and her friends out on a "study date", to which Nichelle agreed for them all.

He likes to tell jokes and make Ana laugh, and he puts up with her even when she was on crutches and losing her temper. He supported Ana throughout her Track Meet and the Central Park Triathlon event. Though Ana's father doesn't appear to approve of him, her little sister warmed up to him right away. Even when they broke up on the Generationgirl.com Chit Chat section, they remained close friends. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, Ana and Blaine both moved to Peru to teach English there.

Ana believes Blaine is pretty cute even with glasses. She likes his natural dark, wavy hair and nice, sparkling blue eyes.

Mari[]

Romantic Interests[]

Ana doesn't think much about love and romance because she's always busy with sports. She generally doesn't have an ideal type specifically. Like many teenagers, she just likes cute boys. She can be picky in other areas. She wants to be treated as an equal in whatever relationship she gets into.

Ana's main crush and boyfriend throughout the series is Blaine Gordon. According to the website though, Ana and Blaine took a break from each other for a while after a series of arguments. Later in the chatroom, Ana and Blaine both became exchange students in Peru. Ana planned to "spend a lot of time" with him but said she would "take it slow".
